Selesa Ride was founded in Kota Kinabalu by a team with deep familiarity with Sabah's roads — the airport arrivals hall, the long climb to Kundasang, the highway stretching east toward Semporna. We knew from experience that rental options in the state ranged from unreliable to overpriced, with little attention paid to vehicle condition for specific journey types.
We set up our office at Oceanus Waterfront Mall, a central and accessible location in Kota Kinabalu's waterfront district, and built a fleet around three journey categories: airport arrivals, highland drives, and long-distance east coast transfers. Each vehicle in each category is maintained according to the demands of that specific route.
Today, we serve visitors arriving from across Malaysia and internationally, as well as local travellers who prefer a more considered rental experience. Our approach hasn't changed: prepare the vehicle properly, handle the paperwork in advance, and communicate clearly before and during the rental period.

How We Maintain Quality
The standards we hold ourselves to before, during, and after every rental.
Pre-Rental Vehicle Check
Brake pads, tyre pressure, engine fluids, lights, and GPS function are verified before every rental. Highland-bound vehicles receive additional suspension and cooling checks.
Cleanliness Protocol
Interior and exterior cleaning is completed between every rental. Vehicles are not re-issued without completing this process regardless of turnaround time.
Advance Documentation
All rental agreements, insurance documentation, and vehicle information are prepared in advance of your collection time — particularly at the airport counter.
Client Data Protection
Personal information collected during booking is held securely and used only for rental purposes. We do not share client data with third parties without consent.
Licensed & Registered Operator
Selesa Ride operates as a registered vehicle rental operator under Malaysian commercial transport regulations. All vehicles carry current road tax and insurance.
Post-Rental Follow-Up
After vehicle return, we follow up to confirm that the rental met your expectations and to address any concerns before closing the booking.
Context
Car Rental in Sabah — What Actually Matters
Sabah presents a diverse range of road conditions — urban Kota Kinabalu traffic, the winding ascent to Kundasang at 1,500 metres above sea level, and the long flat highway that crosses the interior toward the east coast. Each stretch makes different demands on a vehicle and on the driver.
Selesa Ride was structured around this reality. The fleet is not a single pool of interchangeable vehicles — it is organised by journey type, with specific models assigned to conditions they are suited for. A crossover SUV with verified brake performance and tyre grip goes to Kinabalu Park. A highway-conditioned sedan with checked suspension handles Sandakan. A compact with pre-loaded GPS handles KK airport arrivals.
For visitors travelling through Sabah, the combination of vehicle reliability, clear paperwork, and someone reachable by phone throughout the trip provides a qualitatively different experience from walking up to a rental counter and taking whatever is available.
